Successful
EYE REMOVAL

"Maximillion"

Last Wednesday little Maximillion had a big day .... he underwent surgery to remove an atrophied eyeball, hernia repair, and had his teeth cleaned.  Whew, what a day .... !   But Maxie has forged ahead with a spirit of sweetness and is now bouncing around his foster home, acting  as if he's always lived there. ...

MANDIE
Have you ever seen a sweeter face?

Oct 20, 02

  Born in puppymill

Early Dec

  Went to Petland in KY

12/21/02

  Diagnosed w/ Distemper Encephalitis

After spending the Spring being passed through four different homes in just 5 months,
Mandie was surrendered to Lily's Hope Bichon Rescue of Pennsylvania.

Diagnosis:   Brain damage due to the encephalitis, accompanied by ongoing seizures and some learning disabilities and constant hyper motion.

Mandie's seizures have begun to be controlled
by the proper level of medication.  Though Mandie was first thought to be deaf and perhaps sight impaired, careful handling and behavioral assessment have found that she hears just fine... and sees well too.  However ...

Prognosis:   Dismal

Few puppies who suffer from juvenile
distemper encephalitis live very long.  It is a disease that eats away parts of the brain and is ultimately fatal to the little being.  More info

Note: Cases like Mandie's are just one of the reasons why we cherish your friendship, your compassion and your hugs as we nurture these fluffs in our homes. We live with these dogs under our feet, on our sofas and sometimes in our beds.  The reality of some of the special fluffers for which we provide a last chance is very difficult to live with....  Thank you for always 'being there' for all bichon rescue volunteers.
