Bichon Rescue is an all-volunteer North American network of dedicated bichon lovers who
rescue, rehab and rehome hundreds of bichons in need each year.

July 13, 2003
SPECIAL NOTE:  It's mid-July and bichons are coming in at an alarming rate.
Vacations, moving, divorce, deaths, breeders going out of business ..... Bichon Rescue gets them all.
We take in the young, the old, those who need nurturing and love
and we offer each of them a second chance for a happy life.

Please consider helping in some way.

FROM A BLIND DOG
I cannot see you Mommy when you cuddle me so near.
And yet I know you love me it's in the words I hear.
I cannot see you Daddy when you hold me by your side
But still I know you love me when you tell me so with pride.

I cannot see to run and play out in the sun so bright
For here, inside my tiny head it's always dark as night.
I cannot see the treats you give when I am extra good
But I can wag my tail in thanks just like a good dog should.

"It cannot see! The dog's no good!"
Is what some folks might say
"It can't be trained! It'll never learn!
It must be put away!"

But not you Mom and Daddy - you know that it's alright
Because I love you just as much as any dog with sight.
You took me in, you gave me love, and we will never part
Because I'm blind with just my eyes, I see you in my heart.

Chained Dog's Plea

I wish someone would tell me
What it is that I've done wrong.
Why do I have to stay chained up
And left alone so long?

They seemed so glad to have me|
When I came here as a pup.
There were so many things we'd do
While I was growing up.

But now the Master "hasn't time"
The Mistress says I shed.
She doesn't want me in the house,
Not even to be fed.

The Children never walk me
They always say, "Not now."
I wish that I could please them.
Won't someone tell me how?

All I had, you see, was love.
I wish they could explain
Why they said they wanted mine
And then left it on a chain.

SUMMER IS VACATION TIME
TEN QUICK TIPS
TO SAFE
TRAVEL WITH YOUR DOG

1.  Practice traveling with your pet by first taking short trips.

2.  If you plan to leave your dog in a motel room for anything more than a few seconds,
please don't take the dog along!

3.  Plan ahead so you will be insured of pet friendly hotels.
Check:
PETS WELCOME & DOG FRIENDLY

4.  Ask in advance for a motel room on the first floor with outdoor access for those quick pee/poo runs.
5.  Advise motel maid service that there is a dog in your room so no one will open the door and inadvertantly allow the dog to escape this strange environment.
6.  Bring along water from home if possible to avoid dehydration if your dog is fussy about strange tasting water.
7.  Don't forget your dogs own food, medications, chewies, toys, extra collar and leash, and familiar bed or blankie.
8.  Prepare for the worst to reduce chances of stressful events while on vacation.
9.   ALWAYS keep your dog on a leash.  Bunnies, squirrels and birds have been the reason for many a death to otherwise well-mannered dogs.
10.  If planning to fly with your dog, get the scoop here:  FLYING WITH YOUR DOG
